The Witur blog has moved!
September 28, 2009 by witurNew Website and Android Application
August 26, 2009 by witurToday is an exciting day for us as we are rolling out several changes to our Web and we are also making available Witur for Android. Let’s start with the Web changes.
First of all you will notice a redesigned home page that summarizes all Witur features and allows you to access each one of them easily from the tabs above. You can now create itineraries as an anonymous user so you can test the system before registering. The core search functionality has been moved to its own search section and has been enhanced with a number of parameters that will allow you customize your search criteria. Furthermore, we have modified the visualization of the results on the map as it was too cluttered. Now, when you search, you get a list of itineraries and we only display the initial marker for each itinerary. When you move the mouse over the search results, we highlight the different entries, zoom in, and draw the whole itinerary on the map. Finally, we have added a new section called My Witur that displays your itineraries, your connection status to Facebook and Twitter, a dialog to embed your itineraries in other web pages, and finally, statistics about the number of times people have read each of your itineraries. We still have many more changes we will keep rolling out during the next months.
On the mobile devices arena we are very excited about our latest addition: Witur for Android. This new application leverages our previous experience on Witur for the iPhone and extends the iPhone app with very important features such as the ability to work on multiple itineraries at the same time, and more importantly, the ability to edit itineraries from your Android device before you publish them. Many thanks to all our iPhone users for their feedback! We are already working on a new version of our iPhone application that will add this missing functionality.

Are you a twitter user?
May 27, 2009 by witur
Are you a Twitter user? Do you have lots of followers that would like to know about your latest itineraries? If the answer is yes, then we have good news for you! We just added a new feature that automatically updates your Twitter status every time you add new stages to your itineraries from either the Web of the iPhone. Updates include the name of the stage as well as a link to it, so your followers will be able to jump to your Witur itinerary right away to see all the details.
This is how it works:
1. Sign in to your Witur account
2. In the upper right menu you will see a new link that says “Connect to Twitter” go ahead and click on it
3. You will be redirected to a Twitter page where you have to enter your Twitter username and Password
4. You are ready to go!
After you connect to Twitter, the upper right menu will change the link to “Disconnect from Twitter”. Click on it if you want Witur to stop updating your Twitter status.
This new notification feature is very useful to keep friends posted about your progress while traveling, hiking, or just walking around the city. We find it particularly useful when combined with the iPhone, as it allows you to broadcast your itinerary in real-time very easily. We call this broadcasting feature “Witurcast” and you will soon hear more about it.
By the way, we will soon add another feature to enable non-Twitter users send updates to Witur followers. Keep posted!
